Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started
What is Stoa?

Stoa is a distributed platform that allows users to buy and sell any data in a secure and decentralized way. The whole process is anonymous and does not require an identity verification. You simply need to start a node to become a buyer or seller within the System. Any user can exchange any type of data (documents, pictures, videos, etc). Data Exchange serves as a decentralized cross-horizontal hub for big data (Health Care, Finance, Public, Research, Retail, Marketing) and connects data providers from any industry to data consumers.

What is Ignite ?

Ignite is a decentralized social network that allows everyone to share their mind freely via texts and media files. All posts are distributed via Ethereum blockchain and stored immutably in the distributed Data Storage. It is able to store necessary data and media for a period of 10-100 years. Being based on the BitTorrent File System, Ignite can not be blocked by any form of barrier or firewall.

How to sell the data?

There are several ways to sell the data within the Prometeus Data Exchange platform Stoa.

A user can select and upload data through any Data Validator via Data Owner client, or they can run their own Data Validator node and use it for uploads.

When a user wants to upload data, he/she can select data access terms:

  • Price of data denominated in PROM tokens or USD
  • The term at which data will be available for purchase
  • Limit of deals with the data
  • Limit categories of data buyers that can access the data
How to buy the data?

There are several ways to buy the data within the Prometeus Data Exchange platform Stoa.

A user can select and access data through any Data Mart via Data Buyer client, or they can run their Data Mart node and use it.

When a user wants to access data, they will see data access terms such as price, access limits, etc. Once a transaction is confirmed, data becomes available for download.

Do I need any PROM tokens to start?

Depending on the product or the desired services, a user might have to stake or spend a certain amount of PROM tokens.

For Ignite, basic services don't require to have PROM tokens, but the user may spend or stake PROM tokens to get access to expanded services.

From Stoa, users must have PROM tokens to share or access data on the network.

Each node in the system has its PROM token requirements to run it.

Which exchanges support PROM token?

Currently 3 exchanges support PROM token: Coinone, Bittrex and Bitmax.

Privacy & Security
How do you identify users?

Via their ERC20 wallets. We plan to add other blockchain support in the near future.

What kind of KYC do you need?

You don't need any kind of formal KYC in order to use Stoa.

What do you ban users for?

As Prometeus network is a decentralised open network, we don't have any administrative authority to ban users.

Do you have censorship?

Ignite and Stoa operate on decentralised open networks, so they are both censorship resistant from external and internal operators. don’t have any kind of censorship

What is the Recommendation System for?

The recommendation system is used to show you the most relevant content.

How do you prevent illicit activities?

As long as we are completely censorship free social media - we can’t ban users or delete posts. But in order to fight with illicit activities we have sensitive content AI filers, which will warn you about the illicit content.

What means that you are community driven?

We don’t have any centralized governance or moderation. All network activities are either taken by the nodes in the network or eligible users on the platform.

What means that you are decentralized?

Authentication on Ignite is done through public blockchain. Network itself is operated through a set of equitable nodes. Anyone can join and support the network.

What means that you are trustless?

That means that all transactions are done p2p. Without a third party involved.

How do you store data?

Prometeus protocol automatically stores all data in the distributed data storage. Our prime DDS is BTFS. But we are considering other DDS in the near future to support other applications.

What is the ‘immutable’ term?

Data is stored forever on a distributed data storage BTFS.

Do you delete anything?

To make Ignite censorship resistant, all data is stored indefinitely at BTFS/Bittorrent and can not be deleted by us.

Do you share info with the authorities?

Both Ignite and Stoa operate through open decentralised networks, so they do not have any centralised authority or entity that can be sharing data.

Why are you immune to firewalls and limitations?

Ignite can not be blocked by any kind of barrier or firewall (even Chinese one), because it stores all on BTFS engine, which can not be blocked effectively yet and utilizes Ethereum blockchain for users/nodes authentication. Briefly: you can’t ban Ignite as long as you can’t ban blockchain itself.

Can you put your hands on my data?

All data is encrypted and stored on BTFS. Data can only be accessed on the terms defined by the data owner.

Can my data be hacked or stolen?

In Stoa, all data is encrypted and stored in a decentralised storage. One can only access your data on the terms and pricing set by the Data Owner upon data upload.

In Ignite, all activity and posts on the platform are public and available for view from BTFS.

How can I edit my post in Ignite

Ignite currently doesn’t support this feature. It will be added in the coming months.

General Questions

How to explore the data?

Data on Stoa can be explored either directly via Prometeus business blockchain explorer, via Data mart, or via API from the network.

How can I see data exchange transactions?

You will be able to see all data exchange transactions via Prometeus blockchain explorer: please have a look at current version here

How can I update my data in Stoa?

This functionality will be added in the future. Stay tuned for the updates.

Can I delete anything?

This functionality will be added in the future. Stay tuned for the update.

How to promote my data to the buyers?

One of the reasons why we have created Ignite is because one day we discovered that our community lacks the environment where they can discuss data trading deals in a secure and anonymous way. So we think that Ignite could be an optimal place to promote and discuss data exchange deals at Prometeus.

Roles and Nodes

Who is the Data Owner?

Data Owner is the person or the company that has got some valuable data that he/she is trying to sell, monetize or share on the terms it thinks is right.

Who is the Data Validator?

Data Validator is an application which is responsible for aggregation and validation of the data from the Data Owners and provide it to Prometeus ecosystem. Basically it serves as a gateway inside the network for data.

Who is the Data Mart?

Data Mart node is an application which is used for acessingdata and proceeding it to the buyer. It also serves a way to navigate and filter data stored on the network

What Service Nodes do?

Service Node is a distributed application which acts as an intermediate layer between all the Roles within the System. Service Node uses a private Ethereum network + Ethereum Plasma under the hood: due to the requirement of providing large volumes of information to the clients the quickest way possible.

Service Node arranges the storage of encrypted data in a distributed data storage, and metadata in Ethereum blockchain.

Upon data uploading Data Validator commits payment which is distributed among Service Nodes via smart contract. Upon data purchasing Data Mart (see below) commits payment which is distributed among Data Validators and Data Owners via smart contract. Part of each purchase payment is kept by Service Node as a commissionary fee.

What Data Validator Nodes do?

Data Validator provides RESTful API and user interface for uploading data. The Node uploads data from Data Owners to the Prometeus network using the API of Service Node so that it can become available for purchase to Data marts. The payment for the storage of that data is charged at the moment of upload via the smart contract. Besides that, Data Validator Node makes initial encryption of uploaded data using the Data Owner's public key.

What Data Mart Nodes do?

Data mart node allows users to browse metadata (via special UI) and purchase any Data Owners’ data within the System using API of Service Node. Besides that, Data Validator Node makes final decryption of the data.

How to start a Service Node?

You can find detailed instructions and necessary files to run a service node in our GitHub
